Dating The Dead
TVNZ challenged us to come up with a way to promote the new season of it’s hit zombie TV show The Walking Dead. With a target demographic of mostly 18-28 males and the recent launch and success of dating app Tinder in New Zealand, we got to thinking that there might be a connection there given there was such a big crossover in users.
What if we used Tinder to reach out to our demographic, and have the person they match with deteriorate over the course of the week becoming less and less human, as if they were infected by a zombie? We sourced a make up and special effects effects team and got to work zombifying our talent, taking photos of them in numerous stages of decay. Writing scripts and bios for the talent, we then got to work matching eager lads near by and started chatting to them.
Each day or two, we’d change out the photos on each profile, each being progressively more zombie-like as the week went on. Finally once we reached full zombie mode, we reached out to all our matches and told them if they wanted to meet they could catch us on TV2 for the season premiere of The Walking Dead.
